Karnataka has installed 25,675.39 MW of renewable energy capacity as of October 31, 2025, accounting for 10.24% of Indiaโ€™s total renewable energy capacity of 2,50,643.45 MW, according to data shared in the Rajya Sabha by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi.

Providing an update on the progress of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), the Minister informed that 18,72,499 rooftop solar (RTS) systems have been installed across the country as of November 26, 2025, benefiting 23,47,694 households. Karnataka has contributed 14,151 installations under the scheme, benefiting 22,313 households.

In Belagavi district, 25,778 applications have been filed on the National Portal, and 681 households have received rooftop solar systems under the scheme.

To achieve the national target of installing rooftop solar in one crore households by 2026โ€“27, the Ministry has introduced a series of measures. These include a fully online application-to-subsidy process via the National Portal, collateral-free loans from nationalized banks at a concessional interest rate of 6% per annum, simplified regulatory approvals with auto load enhancement up to 10 kW, and inclusion of RESCO and Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) models.

The National Portal now integrates the net metering agreement as part of the application process, while vendor registration has been streamlined to ensure adequate availability of qualified installers. As of November 11, 2025, a total of 20,423 vendors were registered. Capacity-building initiatives have trained 1,49,916 individuals so far.

Public outreach campaignsโ€”spanning print media, television, radio, and regional broadcastsโ€”are underway to increase awareness, alongside periodic review meetings with states and DISCOMs. A dedicated call centre (15555) operates in 12 languages to address consumer grievances.

On solar park development, the Minister informed that Rs. 351.94 crore has been released as Central Financial Assistance for the 2,000 MW Pavagada Solar Park, which has been fully operational since December 2019. Key lessons learned include the need for timely land availability and pre-planned transmission infrastructure for large-scale projects.

The Karnataka government has conveyed that there are currently no plans to establish new solar or wind energy parks in North Karnataka, including Belagavi district.
