The Research and Development Centre of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) received a high-level German delegation led by Marco Loritz, First Secretary for Economy and Culture at the German Consulate in Dubai. The delegation also included Karin Zangerl, Director of the Abu Dhabi Office of the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry & Commerce, along with representatives from leading German companies specialising in hydrogen and renewable energy technologies.
During the visit, DEWA officials highlighted the Centreโs latest research contributions, including published scientific papers and patents in fields such as solar energy, smart grid technologies, energy efficiency, and advanced water solutions. The delegation was also briefed on innovations developed under the DEWA Space-D programme to support future electricity and water network applications.
Officials provided a detailed overview of DEWAโs Green Hydrogen projectโthe first in the Middle East and North Africa to produce hydrogen using solar energy. The delegation learned about the projectโs role in supporting the UAEโs leadership in the sector. According to the Green Hydrogen Report 2024 by Alvarez & Marsal, the UAE ranks first globally in green hydrogen competitiveness. The group also explored applications of hydrogen in clean transport, industry, and future energy systems.
The visit also included a tour of DEWAโs Sustainability and Innovation Centre, where metaverse technology was used to showcase the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Parkโthe worldโs largest single-site solar power installation based on the independent power producer (IPP) model.
Members of the German delegation praised DEWAโs efforts to advance innovation and foster global partnerships in hydrogen and renewable energy. They emphasised the importance of collaboration to accelerate the energy transition, support net-zero targets, and enhance long-term sustainability of energy and water resources.
