Plenitude has officially inaugurated the Caparacena solar project in Chimeneas, Granada, during a ceremony attended by regional and local officials, including the Secretary General of Energy of the Junta de Andalucía and the mayors of Chimeneas and Ventas de Huelma.
The Caparacena development is one of Plenitude’s most significant renewable energy assets in Spain. Spanning 264 hectares, the project consists of three 50 MW photovoltaic parks, equipped with more than 274,000 bifacial solar modules, delivering a total installed capacity of 150 MWp. The facility is expected to generate approximately 320 GWh of clean electricity annually.
Environmental Protection and Historic Archaeological Discovery
In line with environmental requirements for project approval, Plenitude implemented several measures during construction to protect the surrounding ecosystem and preserve soil conditions. Notably, archaeological monitoring conducted in April 2024 uncovered an Iberian necropolis dating back to the 6th century BC, revealing funerary ceramic urns and other ancient artefacts. The discovery enabled the preservation of an important historical site, contributing to the cultural heritage of Andalusia.
Company Statement
Mariangiola Mollicone, Head of Western Europe Renewables and Managing Director of Plenitude Renovables Spain, highlighted the project’s environmental and cultural significance.
“The commissioning of Caparacena not only strengthens our deep commitment to Andalusia but also celebrates a historic archaeological discovery that connects our project with the heritage of the territory. With a national portfolio of nearly 1.5 GW of installed capacity, we continue to promote renewable solutions, supporting responsible development of the landscape and its history,” she stated.
Expanding Renewable Footprint in Andalusia
Plenitude continues to strengthen its presence in the Andalusian region. In Seville, the company already operates the 230 MW Guillena photovoltaic plant and is progressing with construction on 200 MW of the Entrenúcleos project. These initiatives further contribute to the region’s energy transition and reinforce Plenitude’s growing role in Spain’s renewable energy landscape.
