Iberdrola has commenced construction of its first two photovoltaic solar plants in the Valencian Community, with a combined installed capacity of 366 MW, marking a key milestone in the company’s renewable energy expansion in eastern Spain. The projects are being developed with the participation of Eiffage Energía Sistemas, which is playing a significant role in their execution.

The two solar plants—Cofrentes I (184 MW) and Ayora 1 (182 MW)—are located in the province of Valencia and form a central part of Iberdrola’s strategy to strengthen renewable energy capacity, support regional energy autonomy, and drive local economic development.

Eiffage Energía Sistemas is contributing technical expertise and operational capacity to the development of the large-scale solar installations. At the Ayora 1 photovoltaic plant, the company is responsible for the full execution of the facility under balance-of-plant (BOP) scope, including the construction of a 30 kV underground evacuation line. Once completed, Ayora 1 will rank among the most significant photovoltaic facilities in the region in terms of capacity, scale, and technological sophistication.

At the Cofrentes I site, Eiffage Energía Sistemas is developing critical infrastructure to evacuate the electricity generated, including 132 kV and 400 kV high-voltage overhead and underground transmission lines, enabling safe and efficient integration into the national electricity grid.

The construction of both projects is expected to deliver a significant economic boost to the Ayora-Cofrentes valley, with 350 to 400 workers employed during peak construction periods, supporting job creation and strengthening the local renewable energy value chain.

Once operational, the two solar plants are projected to generate over 650,000 MWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power approximately 200,000 households, while avoiding an estimated 52,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

The projects also incorporate measures focused on environmental restoration, landscape integration, and biodiversity protection, reinforcing Iberdrola’s and Eiffage Energía Sistemas’ commitment to sustainability and responsible renewable energy development.
