PT PLN (Persero) has expressed full support for the Indonesian governmentโ€™s decision, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), to keep electricity tariffs unchanged for the first quarter of 2026 (Januaryโ€“March). The state-owned utility also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the reliability and quality of electricity services nationwide.

Explaining the policy, Acting Director General of Electricity at ESDM, Tri Winarno, said electricity tariff adjustments for non-subsidised customers are regulated under Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 7 of 2024. Under the regulation, tariffs are reviewed every three months based on macroeconomic indicators, including the exchange rate, Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and the Reference Coal Price (HBA).

โ€œBased on the calculation of these parameters, electricity tariffs have the potential to change. However, to safeguard public purchasing power, the government has decided to maintain electricity tariffs at their current levels for the first quarter of 2026,โ€ Tri said.

He added that tariffs for 25 customer categories will remain unchanged, with electricity subsidies continuing. The policy is aimed at easing the financial burden on households and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) at the start of the year, while supporting purchasing power and overall economic stability.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the decision provides much-needed certainty for consumers and businesses as household expenses rise and economic activities resume early in the year.

โ€œWith electricity tariffs remaining unchanged, people and MSMEs can better manage their spending, which helps maintain purchasing power,โ€ Darmawan said.

He further emphasised PLNโ€™s commitment to ensuring a reliable power supply, improving service quality, and enhancing operational efficiency.

โ€œFor PLN, electricity is not merely a service but the foundation of daily activities. We remain focused on delivering reliable and sustainable electricity so the public can begin the year with greater confidence and productivity,โ€ he added.
