NEU Battery Materials has completed the first close of its Pre-Series A funding round, marking a significant milestone in scaling its innovative lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery recycling technology. The funding comes at a critical time as the global focus on securing mineral supply chains has shifted from sustainability concerns to matters of national infrastructure.
The Pre-Series A close reflects strong investor confidence in the company, which has achieved several key milestones in 2025. NEU Battery Materials surpassed its 2028 critical technology targets three years ahead of schedule, completed pilot-scale validation, and began semi-commercial scaling in Singapore. The company also gained recognition for its achievements, winning the overall championship and Green Tech Track at EPIC Hong Kong, being named a Top 4 finalist at the Forbes Asia 100 to Watch Forum, and being shortlisted in the FedEx Asia Pacific Small Business Grant Contest.
Global energy storage growth is driving demand for advanced battery recycling technologies. In the United States, energy storage deployments exceeded the 2025 target, reaching over 40 gigawatts, while China added 260 gigawatts of renewable capacity in a single year. Governments worldwide are increasingly treating critical minerals as strategic infrastructure. In the U.S., renewable energy offices have been reorganized under the new Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation, while the European Unionโs Critical Raw Materials Act now requires battery manufacturers to assess lithium supply chain risks.
NEU Battery Materials plans to use the newly raised funds to expand operations from a pilot plant to a semi-commercial facility in Singapore with a capacity of 1,300 tons. This facility will recycle various LFP battery materials into battery-grade lithium, addressing both cost and emissions challenges while strengthening critical mineral security. The company also aims to form new commercial partnerships and collaborations globally to further accelerate the adoption of its technology.
The Pre-Series A round was co-led by SGInnovate and Shift4Good, with participation from existing shareholders, founders, and new investors, including CJIC and M7 Holdings. By enabling circularity in battery materials, NEU Battery Materials positions itself as a key player in the global energy transition, offering solutions that combine sustainability, cost efficiency, and supply chain resilience. The companyโs progress signals a promising future for critical material technologies and the broader renewable energy sector.
The funding and technological advancements set the stage for NEU Battery Materials to play a pivotal role in global energy strategy, demonstrating the growing importance of battery recycling and circularity in the rapidly expanding clean energy landscape.
