Andhra Pradesh has strengthened its push to become a national clean-energy manufacturing hub with the approval of a large-scale solar project by Websol Renewable Private Limited. The company will set up a fully integrated 8 GW solar manufacturing complex at the Multi-Product Special Economic Zone (MPSEZ) in Naidupeta, Tirupati district, backed by an investment of ₹3,538 crore.
State officials said the greenfield development reflects the growing shift of solar manufacturing capacity toward southern India, driven by policy support, infrastructure readiness and proximity to ports. The project is expected to anchor a broader photovoltaic (PV) ecosystem in the region while generating significant employment.
The proposed complex will be developed in two phases across 120 acres, comprising 4 GW of solar cell capacity and 4 GW of module capacity. Commercial operations are scheduled to commence in July 2027 and July 2028, placing the project among the faster-tracked utility-scale solar manufacturing investments in the country.
To enhance energy security and operational efficiency, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has allocated land for a dedicated captive solar power facility spanning about 300 acres. Websol will also install a 100 MW captive solar plant within the manufacturing campus to meet a portion of its power requirements through renewable sources.
According to the state administration, the project is expected to create nearly 2,000 direct jobs and catalyse ancillary industries, including logistics, component supply, skilling and port-linked services—reinforcing the industrial profile of the Naidupeta region.
Sohan Lal Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Websol Energy System, said the investment aligns with India’s clean-energy transition goals and the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, citing Andhra Pradesh’s policy stability and facilitative approach as key enablers.
Echoing this, Nara Lokesh, Minister for Industries and IT, noted that the approval highlights the state’s emergence as a competitive destination for renewable-energy manufacturing, supported by streamlined clearances and industrial infrastructure.
Industry analysts observe that Naidupeta and the wider southern industrial corridor are drawing increasing interest from solar manufacturers, with players such as Premier Energies, Tata Power and Voltsun expanding capacity in the region—signalling sustained momentum in India’s domestic PV supply chain.
