India and Brazil have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, with a strong focus on sustainable growth and green transition.
The agreement was signed between the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, and Brazil’s Ministry of Entrepreneurship, Micro and Small Enterprises during the official visit of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to India on February 21, 2026.
Platform for MSME Collaboration
The MoU establishes a formal framework for dialogue and cooperation between the two countries on MSME-related issues. It aims to enable enterprises in both nations to better understand each other’s markets, technologies, regulatory frameworks and policy environments.
Officials stated that the agreement will help MSMEs leverage complementary strengths, expand market access and enhance bilateral trade engagement.
Advancing the Green Transition
A key pillar of the MoU is support for the green transition. The framework seeks to create enabling conditions for MSMEs to access green finance and adopt sustainable practices. This includes facilitating their integration into global value chains while improving productivity and competitiveness.
By promoting environmentally responsible business models, the partnership is expected to strengthen MSMEs’ capacity for sustainable development and align with broader climate and economic transformation goals in both countries.
The agreement marks another step in expanding India–Brazil strategic cooperation, reinforcing the role of MSMEs as engines of inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
