Chinese solar manufacturer Elite Solar has opened a major new solar manufacturing complex in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone, marking an important step for the country’s renewable energy sector. The project was officially launched on January 11, 2026, in a ceremony led by Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, who highlighted how this investment supports the country’s long-term green economy plans under Vision 2030. The opening reflects Egypt’s strategy to increase local manufacturing, reduce reliance on imports, and attract global companies focused on clean energy.

The entire complex represents an investment of about USD 116 million and includes two key production units. The first factory, built with about USD 40 million, can produce up to 2 GW of solar cells every year. This facility will support the domestic renewable energy market by supplying a crucial component that often has to be imported. It is also expected to create around 400 direct jobs and about 40 indirect jobs, offering new opportunities in technical and industrial roles. Officials say this factory will contribute to building a stronger base for solar manufacturing in Egypt and encourage more local participation in the clean energy value chain.

The second and larger part of the complex involves an investment of around USD 76 million and is designed to produce up to 3 GW of solar panels and other electronic components annually. This facility is expected to generate about 460 direct jobs and around 130 indirect jobs. Industry leaders believe it will help develop advanced manufacturing skills in the country and position Egypt as a competitive location for renewable energy equipment production. By establishing these capabilities locally, Egypt aims to support future solar power projects more efficiently and reduce costs linked to imported technology.

Construction of the complex began in December 2024, and the project is part of a wider national effort to make Egypt a regional hub for clean energy manufacturing. Prime Minister Madbouly said the investment aligns with Egypt’s goals to expand clean energy generation, develop high-tech industries, and increase the contribution of renewable energy to the national economy. The new solar complex is expected to attract further international interest in Egypt’s renewable energy sector and strengthen the country’s role in supporting the region’s transition to sustainable power.
