A new study by HR&A Advisors, commissioned by Ameren Corporation, shows that the companyโs operations in Missouri and Illinois generated more than $20.7 billion in annual economic output. The analysis looked at the direct spending Ameren makes each year including payroll, equipment purchases, and payments to suppliers and the broader economic activity created when those investments circulate through local communities. According to the report, each dollar Ameren spends contributes to additional jobs, income growth, and higher tax revenue across the bi-state region.
The study highlights several key impacts. Amerenโs activities support around 55,200 jobs in Missouri and Illinois through direct employment and related economic activity. The company also bought $2.2 billion worth of goods and services from in-state suppliers, reinforcing local business growth. In addition, Ameren contributed $920 million in state and local taxes, supporting public institutions and community services. The company also provided $10.6 million in philanthropic support to help address important community needs.
Amerenโs chairman, president and CEO, Martin J. Lyons Jr., emphasized that employees, suppliers and contractors work daily to improve and expand the energy grid to ensure reliability for customers and support economic growth. He noted that the findings confirm that Amerenโs investments in energy infrastructure deliver significant benefits to the communities it serves.
The study also recognized Amerenโs ongoing efforts to control operational costs and improve efficiency. These efforts help limit the impact of rising energy prices and allow residential and business customers to maintain greater spending power, generating additional positive economic effects. Amerenโs support for business development also played a major role in regional job creation. In 2025, technical assistance provided by the company helped new, expanding and relocating businesses create 3,728 jobs across its two-state service area. Seventy-three economic development projects together generated $3.56 billion in capital investment.
Across Ameren Missouriโs service territory in 2025, businesses created 2,273 new jobs and invested $1.56 billion. Examples include Amazonโs new 61,000-square-foot delivery station in Scott City, which involved $15 million in investment and added 70 jobs; WEG Transformers USAโs $77 million expansion creating 50 new jobs in Washington, Missouri; and IKOโs investment of over $120 million in a new 220,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Bismarck, Missouri, generating more than 50 jobs.
In Ameren Illinoisโ service territory, businesses added more than 1,455 jobs and invested $2 billion in 2025. Notable projects included Western Smokehouse Partnersโ $50 million expansion in Galesburg creating 180 jobs; Prysmian Groupโs $63.8 million investment adding 80 jobs in Du Quoin; and Wieland Metalsโ major $500 million expansion in East Alton, which is expected to create 700 full-time jobs. Reflecting its strong role in regional development, Ameren was recently recognized by Business Facilities magazine as one of the 2026 Top Utilities for Economic Development.
