CEAT has partnered with CleanMax Enviro Energy Solutions Limited to develop approximately 59 MW of hybrid wind-solar projects across Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. These projects will supply renewable energy to CEAT’s Halol facility in Gujarat and Kanchipuram facility in Tamil Nadu under a group captive model. CleanMax, a Brookfield-backed company, is currently the largest provider of renewable energy for the commercial and industrial sector in India.
The hybrid nature of these projects is designed to combine the generation profiles of wind and solar power, providing a more consistent energy output and a higher plant load factor. This approach also strengthens grid stability, which is crucial for energy-intensive manufacturing operations. Together, the projects are expected to generate around 13.58 crore units of clean electricity annually. This clean energy generation is projected to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 1,00,000 tonnes per year, which is equivalent to planting nearly 4.5 million trees. Once operational, CEAT’s clean power content is expected to reach around 60%.
Roopesh R., Senior Vice President of Procurement at CEAT, said that the partnership with CleanMax strengthens the company’s renewable energy footprint in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. He highlighted that sustainability is a key part of CEAT’s long-term strategy and that the company is committed to growing its business responsibly. CEAT has been advancing in several areas, such as green sourcing, sustainable transportation, biodegradable packaging, sustainable manufacturing, and reduced distribution emissions. Integrating hybrid wind-solar energy into its operations is seen as a strategic progression in the company’s sustainability journey. According to him, the projects are expected to bring cost efficiencies to key manufacturing facilities and help CEAT produce tyres with a lower carbon footprint, setting an industry benchmark.
Kuldeep Jain, Managing Director of CleanMax Enviro Energy Solutions, said the collaboration with CEAT supports the company’s strategic sustainability objectives by decarbonizing operations across key manufacturing hubs. He added that well-structured collaborations like this can accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and contribute to a more sustainable energy future for large-scale manufacturing.
The partnership is expected to enhance CEAT’s energy security, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to significant annual reductions in carbon emissions, supporting its long-term journey toward net-zero operations. The hybrid projects reflect both companies’ commitment to sustainability while ensuring a reliable and efficient renewable energy supply for manufacturing operations.
The projects are anticipated to become a significant step in CEAT’s ongoing efforts to integrate clean energy into its operations while supporting India’s broader renewable energy goals.
