Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL), India’s leading integrated energy solutions provider, has achieved a major milestone by successfully delivering 1 crore electricity smart meters across multiple state discoms, becoming the first company in India—and possibly globally—to reach this scale of deployment. The company plans to install the next 1 crore meters in the upcoming financial year, further accelerating India’s smart metering transformation.
As India’s largest Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP), AESL holds a mandate to deploy approximately 2.5 crore smart meters across five states under the Government of India’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). With an industry-leading installation pace of nearly 25,000 meters per day, the company achieved the 1 crore milestone well ahead of its March 31, 2026 guidance, completing the rollout in just 24 months since commencing operations in 2024.
The deployment marks a significant step toward digitising India’s power distribution network, enabling real-time energy monitoring, enhanced billing transparency, and improved grid management. AESL’s smart metering network delivers critical consumption data that supports demand forecasting, loss reduction, renewable energy integration, and grid modernisation, strengthening the country’s power distribution infrastructure.
Commenting on the achievement, Kandarp Patel, Chief Executive Officer, Adani Energy Solutions, said, “Reaching an installed base of 1 crore smart meters reflects our execution excellence and strong collaboration with utilities and consumers. These smart meters are catalysts for empowering customers with real-time energy insights, improving grid reliability, reducing losses, and enabling efficient energy management. We remain deeply committed to advancing India’s digital energy transition.”
AESL attributes its rapid execution to a fully integrated ecosystem approach. The company has partnered with Adani Esyasoft Smart Solutions’ smart metering and IoT division, AdaniConneX for secure local data hosting, and leading Tier I meter manufacturers to ensure timely deliveries and long-term platform reliability. Additionally, through its CSR initiatives, AESL has developed a large, trained technician workforce to support nationwide installations—creating a key operational advantage.
Under RDSS, India plans to replace 25 crore conventional electricity meters with smart meters to modernise its distribution landscape, reduce Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses, improve billing accuracy, and support clean energy integration. AESL’s milestone marks a significant acceleration toward achieving these national energy transition goals.
