Adani Energy Solutions Limited announced on February 5, 2026, that it has successfully installed 1 crore smart electricity meters across different power distribution companies in India. With this achievement, the company has become the first in India, and possibly in the world, to reach this level of smart meter deployment within such a short period.
The smart metering project began in 2024 and was completed in around 24 months. This is much faster than the company’s earlier plan, which aimed to reach the 1 crore milestone by the end of March 2026. At present, Adani Energy Solutions is installing nearly 25,000 smart meters every day, which is the highest installation rate seen in the industry so far.
As an Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider, the company has received mandates to install about 2.5 crore smart meters across five Indian states. Its total order book now stands at more than 24.6 million meters. Building on its current progress, the company expects to complete the installation of another 1 crore smart meters within the next financial year.
The smart meter rollout is a key part of the Government of India’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme. Under this scheme, around 25 crore conventional electricity meters across the country are planned to be replaced with smart meters. These meters help in providing real-time information on electricity use, improving billing accuracy, and reducing power losses known as Aggregate Technical and Commercial losses. They also support better demand management and help make the power distribution system more efficient and transparent.
Commenting on the milestone, Kandarp Patel, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Energy Solutions, said that smart meters help consumers understand their electricity usage better and play an important role in improving the reliability of the power grid. To achieve such a fast rollout, the company followed an integrated approach. It worked closely with group companies such as Adani Esyasoft for Internet of Things solutions and AdaniConneX for hosting data locally. In addition, the group’s CSR arm focused on training a skilled workforce of technicians to support large-scale installations across multiple regions.
Apart from smart metering, Adani Energy Solutions is also India’s largest private power transmission company. It operates a transmission network of 27,901 circuit kilometers spread across 16 states. The company also handles electricity distribution for more than 13 million consumers in Mumbai and the Mundra Special Economic Zone. By combining digital systems with green energy solutions, Adani Energy Solutions continues to play a major role in supporting India’s energy transition.
