The Jollibee Group has achieved a major sustainability milestone by switching 99% of its commissary electricity in the Philippines to renewable energy, primarily sourced from geothermal power supplied by First Gen.
The initiative, part of the Companyโs broader renewable energy program, builds on earlier solar integration projects and is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 70% across its facilities. First Gen supplies 11 megawatts (MW) of electricity from its geothermal plants, providing a stable and reliable energy source for industrial operations.
A ceremonial switch-on was held on January 29 at the Jollibee Groupโs Laguna commissary, attended by company leaders and local stakeholders.
โThis transition strengthens our sustainable energy foundation, ensuring operational resilience and supporting the Companyโs global expansion,โ said Michael Ong, President for Manufacturing and Logistics of the Jollibee Group.
Joseph Tanbuntiong, Jollibee Group Philippines CEO, highlighted how the move aligns with the Companyโs purpose of spreading joy through superior taste, emphasizing that powering its commissaries with renewable energy ensures reliable operations as the business grows.
Carlo Vega, Chief Customer Engagement Officer at First Gen, welcomed the continued partnership, noting the Companyโs shift to clean energy reflects its disciplined approach to sustainable growth.
The milestone supports relevant United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those focused on clean energy and climate action, and showcases geothermal energy as the only renewable source with baseload capability suitable for industrial operations in the Philippines.
