In a significant step towards decarbonising the events industry, ADNEC Group, a Modon company, has entered into a strategic partnership with Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) to supply renewable and clean energy to the ADNEC Centre Al Ain.
The development marks a major milestone in the Group’s sustainability roadmap, as the venue—hosting over 500 events annually—will now operate entirely on clean energy, achieving zero carbon emissions from its electricity consumption.
The agreement was formalised by Humaid Al Dhaheri, Group CEO of ADNEC Group, and Ahmed Ali Alshamsi, CEO of EWEC, in the presence of senior representatives from both organisations. The collaboration is expected to significantly lower the carbon footprint of large-scale events hosted at the Al Ain facility, reinforcing ADNEC Group’s positioning as a global leader in sustainable event infrastructure.
With this latest addition, all four of ADNEC Group’s key venues—ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, ADNEC Centre Al Ain, ExCeL London, and the Business Design Centre—are now fully powered by renewable and clean energy sources. This achievement aligns with the Group’s broader objective of delivering net-zero carbon events by 2045.
Commenting on the development, Al Dhaheri stated that transitioning all venues to renewable energy not only reduces environmental impact but also sets a new industry benchmark for sustainable event operations.
Alshamsi highlighted that the expanded partnership builds on EWEC’s earlier collaboration with ADNEC Group, noting that the initiative supports the UAE’s clean energy transition and contributes to decarbonising key economic sectors in Abu Dhabi.
Under the agreement, 100 percent of the grid electricity supplied to ADNEC Centre Al Ain will be sourced from EWEC’s renewable energy portfolio and verified through International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC) issued by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy.
Previously, ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi became the first and largest venue in the Middle East and North Africa region to operate بالكامل on clean energy. In April 2025, the Group secured its first I-REC certification, confirming that all electricity consumed at the venue was derived from renewable sources, enabling 166 events to be powered with zero carbon emissions during the reporting period.
ADNEC Group has set an ambitious target to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2045—five years ahead of the UAE’s national target for 2050—demonstrating its proactive commitment to sustainability leadership in the global events sector.
