Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), led by Supachai Koonsad, Assistant Governor – Research, Innovation and Business Development, participated in Nordic Day 2026 celebrations in Bangkok, reinforcing regional cooperation on clean energy innovation and sustainability.
The event, held at the Royal Norwegian Embassy Residence on Sukhumvit 38 in early February 2026, marked the occasion of Nordic Day, which celebrates political and regional collaboration among Nordic nations. The EGAT delegation was welcomed by H.E. Anna Hammargren, Ambassador of Sweden to Thailand; H.E. Eeva Kristiina Kuvaja, Ambassador of Finland to Thailand; H.E. Danny Annan, Ambassador of Denmark to Thailand; and H.E. Astrid Emilie Helle, Ambassador of Norway to Thailand.
During the engagement, EGAT presented its vision as a strategic partner in advancing clean energy innovation to support Thailand’s target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The utility highlighted plans to expand cooperation with Nordic public and private sector representatives, particularly in enhancing Thailand’s Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) system to align with 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy (CFE) standards.
EGAT also referenced its existing Memorandum of Understanding with Business Sweden to explore hydrogen technologies, Hydrogen Energy Storage Systems (HESS), and biomass solutions. The collaboration has contributed to feasibility studies on pumped storage hydropower projects and the rehabilitation of the Mae Moh Mine, aimed at restoring ecological balance and improving energy efficiency.
The initiative underscores EGAT’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships as Thailand accelerates its transition toward a low-carbon and sustainable energy future.
