The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has officially announced the โR.O.C. 2026 Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariffs (FIT) and Calculation Formulas,โ setting the tariff rates and rules that will guide Taiwanโs renewable energy development in 2026. The announcement follows a public consultation process in which the FIT Review Committee examined feedback from industry stakeholders and other participants.
According to MOEA, the 2026 FIT framework continues to provide incentives for a wide range of renewable energy installations. The policy aims to support the steady growth of renewable energy capacity and promote the wider deployment of clean energy technologies across Taiwan. At the same time, the ministry has adjusted some mechanisms based on practical experience from previous years to improve implementation and enhance installation incentives.
In the solar photovoltaic (PV) sector, a new repowering mechanism has been introduced. This measure is designed to encourage project owners to replace aging equipment with higher-efficiency products. By upgrading older systems, the government hopes to improve power generation performance and make better use of existing sites without requiring new land resources.
For conventional geothermal power, MOEA noted that Taiwanโs domestic commercial model is still at an early stage of development. To ensure financial stability for operators and investors, the committee decided to maintain the existing tiered FIT structure. This approach is intended to provide predictable returns and reduce risks for developers as the geothermal sector gradually matures.
During the public consultation period, stakeholders raised several concerns. These included the classification of floating offshore wind under the FIT system, geothermal capacity thresholds, and the categorization and appropriateness of waste-to-energy tariff rates. MOEA stated that it will continue to gather data and make rolling adjustments in response to market conditions and technological progress.
The ministry emphasized that the 2026 FIT review process was conducted in a fair, transparent, and rigorous manner. Records of the consultation and committee meetings have been published online. MOEA said it will continue refining the institutional framework to strengthen the foundation for Taiwanโs long-term renewable energy development.
