Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted an article by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, outlining the evolution of India’s energy sector and its pathway toward a sustainable and resilient future.

Sharing the article on social media platform X, the Prime Minister noted that it provides valuable insights into how India is building a robust energy ecosystem while aligning with long-term sustainability goals under the vision of Viksit Bharat.

In the article, Khattar emphasised that India’s power sector has undergone a significant transformation over the past decade, shifting from chronic power shortages to becoming one of the world’s fastest-growing and most diversified energy markets. The country has expanded generation and transmission capacity substantially, with total installed capacity witnessing strong growth and renewable energy playing an increasingly central role.

He highlighted that India now generates over 520 GW of electricity capacity, supported by improved grid management, reduced transmission losses, and enhanced power availability across households, industries, and rural regions. Reforms such as One Nation, One Grid and initiatives to electrify villages have strengthened energy access and reliability nationwide.

The article also underscored the importance of future-ready infrastructure, noting rising electricity demand driven by digitalisation, data centres, and emerging technologies. To address this, India is focusing on expanding renewable energy, battery storage systems, and green hydrogen, while also advancing nuclear energy capacity to ensure a balanced and resilient energy mix.

Khattar further pointed to initiatives such as smart metering, distribution sector reforms, and the push for integrated power system planning, which aim to improve efficiency and financial sustainability in the sector.

The article highlighted that India is also working toward strengthening cross-border electricity collaboration and accelerating clean energy deployment, positioning itself as a global leader in the energy transition.

The Prime Minister encouraged stakeholders and citizens to engage with the article to better understand India’s energy policies and their role in shaping a sustainable and secure energy future.
