NTPC Limited has signed a Non-Binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ร‰lectricitรฉ de France (EDF) to explore collaboration in developing new nuclear power projects in India. The agreement follows approvals from the relevant ministries and departments of the Government of India.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Arnada Prasad Samal, CGM (Nuclear Cell) on behalf of NTPC, and Mr. Vakisasi Ramany, Senior Vice President, International Nuclear Development, representing EDF.

Under the MoU, both companies will jointly assess feasibility and collaborative approaches for nuclear projects, including:

  • Understanding EDFโ€™s EPR technology and its applicability for Indian conditions
  • Exploring opportunities for localization in large-scale deployment
  • Examining economic and tariff considerations
  • Developing human resource capabilities through training programs
  • Evaluating potential project sites and providing technical support as agreed

This initiative aligns with NTPCโ€™s strategy to expand into clean and reliable energy and strengthen Indiaโ€™s long-term energy security.

Currently, NTPC operates over 89 GW of installed capacity, with 32 GW under construction. The company aims to reach 149 GW by 2032, including 60 GW from renewable sources, covering a balanced mix of thermal, hydro, solar, and wind power plants. In addition to power generation, NTPC is expanding into e-mobility, battery storage, pumped hydro storage, waste-to-energy, nuclear power, and green hydrogen solutions.
