Juniper Green Energy Limited has achieved a major milestone in India’s renewable energy sector by commencing commissioning of the country’s first Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project under the Government of India’s flagship FDRE guidelines issued by the Ministry of Power.

The project, which integrates 259 MWp of solar capacity, 280 MW of wind energy, and 200 MWh of battery energy storage system (BESS), spans across Rajasthan and Gujarat. It is designed to deliver reliable, on-demand renewable power that aligns with grid requirements, addressing one of the key challenges of renewable integration—variability in solar and wind generation.

The solar component of the project began commercial operations in March 2026, followed by the commissioning of the BESS capacity in April 2026.

“This marks the start of India’s first Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy project—a defining milestone in our vision to deliver firm and dispatchable renewable power,” said Ankush Malik, CEO of Juniper Green Energy Limited. “It reflects our execution capabilities, technological depth, and commitment to shaping the future of sustainable energy.”

He further added that the integration of solar, wind, and storage at utility scale demonstrates India’s potential to transition toward reliable clean energy systems, positioning FDRE as a foundational model for future power infrastructure.

The FDRE framework, introduced in June 2023 by the Ministry of Power, mandates the integration of multiple renewable sources with storage to ensure scheduled, demand-aligned power supply. The model is intended to provide a clean alternative to conventional coal-based generation by improving dispatchability and grid stability.

Juniper Green Energy’s project was awarded under a competitive tender issued by SJVN Limited as part of its FDRE scheme. The company signed a 200 MW Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SJVN, which in turn executed a back-to-back Power Sale Agreement with the Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC), ensuring supply of firm renewable power to Haryana.

Among all developers awarded projects under the SJVN FDRE tender, Juniper Green Energy is the first to begin commissioning and power supply.

The FDRE initiative is gaining traction across India, with more than 10 tenders totaling over 14 GW of capacity issued by agencies including NHPC Limited, SECI, and NTPC Limited. Around 10 GW of FDRE capacity is already under construction, making it one of the fastest-growing segments in India’s renewable energy sector.

Industry observers note that FDRE projects are expected to play a key role in strengthening grid reliability, accelerating battery storage deployment, and enabling Discoms to procure renewable energy that closely follows demand patterns.

For Juniper Green Energy, FDRE forms a core part of its long-term strategy as it continues to expand its presence in integrated renewable energy solutions combining solar, wind, and storage technologies.
