PT PLN (Persero) through its subsidiary PT PLN Batam has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PJBTL) with DayOne for a 511 megavolt ampere (MVA) electricity supply to support the company’s large-scale data center project in Batam, marking the largest power agreement for a data center in Indonesia to date.

The agreement was signed at the Balairung Sari Auditorium of Batam Free Trade Zone Authority, reinforcing Batam’s growing position as a regional digital infrastructure hub. The project is located in the Kabil Industrial Estate and forms part of Indonesia’s broader push to strengthen its digital economy infrastructure.

Head of BP Batam and Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad said infrastructure readiness remains a critical factor in attracting global digital investments. He highlighted that Batam’s strategic advantages—including land availability, reliable energy infrastructure, and regulatory certainty—position the city as a competitive regional investment destination.

According to Amsakar, BP Batam remains committed to accelerating licensing processes and strengthening integrated infrastructure support to create a more conducive investment climate. He noted that the DayOne project demonstrates Batam’s readiness to emerge as a global digital hub.

Jamie Khoo, Chief Executive Officer of DayOne, said the company’s expansion in Batam is part of its broader strategy to build a leading regional digital infrastructure platform across Asia. He stated that the company’s continued expansion from the Nongsa industrial area to the Kabil industrial area reflects Batam’s increasing strategic importance in the regional digital ecosystem.

Jamie added that the expansion aligns with the development of the SIJORI (Singapore-Johor-Riau) model, aimed at establishing an integrated cross-border data center platform across Southeast Asia. He said the expansion would enhance DayOne’s capacity to deliver large-scale, high-performance data center services to meet growing cloud computing and advanced digital infrastructure demand across the Asia-Pacific region.

Separately, Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of PLN, emphasized that reliable and affordable electricity supply remains a fundamental pillar for industrial growth and sustainable economic development. He noted that strong electricity infrastructure not only supports industrial continuity but also drives investment and job creation.
