Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has successfully concluded the auction for 375 MW/1500 MWh of standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Uttar Pradesh. This tender is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen grid stability and support the growing share of renewable energy in the state. The project comes under Viability Gap Funding (VGF) Phase II and includes a 4-hour storage system with one cycle per day for a period of 15 years.

The auction discovered tariffs in the range of ₹6.45/kWh to ₹6.46 per kWh. The total capacity was divided among three developers. KCC Buildcon emerged as the largest winner, securing 187.5 MW/750 MWh capacity at a tariff of ₹6.45 per kWh. Agastya Green Energy was awarded 62.5 MW/250 MWh at the same tariff. MKC Green Energy won 45 MW/180 MWh capacity at a slightly higher tariff of ₹6.46 per kWh.

UPPCL had earlier issued the Request for Selection (RfS) for this project in September 2025 under the Power System Development Fund. The initiative is aimed at building standalone battery storage capacity across the state to manage peak demand, reduce curtailment of renewable energy, and improve overall grid efficiency.

As per the tender conditions, the selected developers are required to apply for grid connectivity within 30 days of receiving the Letter of Award (LoA). The Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BEDPA) must also be signed within 30 days from the LoA issuance, which will mark the effective date of the contract. In addition, the developers must achieve financial closure within 12 months.

This auction marks a key milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s energy transition, highlighting the increasing role of battery storage in India’s power sector.
