BERC Invites Applications For Part-Time Advisor Role In Tariff And Regulatory Work In Bihar

The Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission, based in Patna, has announced an opening for the post of Advisor (Tariff and Regulatory Work). The position is being offered on a part-time basis under the Commissionโ€™s 2013 Appointment of Consultants Regulations, giving an opportunity to experienced professionals in the power sector to contribute to regulatory work.

According to the notification, the Commission is looking for a highly experienced individual with both technical and administrative expertise. Candidates must hold a degree in engineering and should have at least 25 years of experience in the power sector. In addition, applicants must have strong exposure to electricity tariff matters and regulatory functions. The eligibility criteria also require candidates to have served at senior levels such as Chief Engineer, Director, or above, before retirement. The maximum age limit for applicants has been fixed at 67 years as of May 1, 2026.

The selected Advisor will play an important role in supporting the Commissionโ€™s core activities. The work profile includes providing advice on annual tariff determination, assisting in drafting or updating regulations, and carrying out research to improve the functioning of the power sector in the state. The Advisor will also be responsible for tracking new policies and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Power and the Central Electricity Authority. In addition, the role involves monitoring issues related to electricity utilities in Bihar.

The engagement is structured for 12 working days a month, offering flexibility to work either from the Commissionโ€™s office or from home. However, the selected candidate will be required to submit a monthly work plan in advance for approval. The Commission will provide a consolidated remuneration of up to Rs. 1,20,000 per month, depending on the number of days worked. While no additional allowances will be given, the Advisor will be provided an office vehicle for local official use and travel reimbursement for duties outside Patna.

The initial appointment will be for one year, with a possibility of extension on a yearly basis for up to three years. The selection process will be based on the evaluation of qualifications and experience, and the Commission may conduct interviews if required.

Interested candidates need to submit their applications along with self-attested documents, including educational certificates and detailed work experience. The last date to apply is May 21, 2026, by 5:30 PM. Applications must be sent to the Secretary, BERC, at Vidyut Bhawan-II in Patna.
