Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (PWP) has announced a new tender to study the future use of green hydrogen in power generation in the Sultanate of Oman. The company is inviting a techno-economic consultant to assess the feasibility of setting up an Independent Power Project (IPP) that can run on hydrogen. This move is part of Oman’s wider plan to adopt cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions while supporting its long-term energy transition goals.

The main purpose of this consultancy is to carry out an initial study for a power plant that can operate on up to 100 percent hydrogen. The project is expected to be large, with a proposed capacity between 800 MW and 1,000 MW. If developed, this would be one of the significant steps toward using hydrogen as a reliable fuel for electricity generation in the region. It also reflects the country’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and move toward a low-carbon energy system.
