During the meeting, officials informed the Minister that continuous rainfall, strong winds, and falling trees had severely affected the electricity distribution network. Many electric poles were uprooted, transformers were damaged, and several power lines were snapped, resulting in power outages for residential, commercial, and agricultural consumers in different districts of Punjab.

The Minister directed PSPCL officials to give top priority to restoring electricity supply in essential service locations, including hospitals, water supply facilities, and emergency relief centres. He stressed that uninterrupted electricity in these critical areas is necessary to support public services during the ongoing weather crisis.

Harbhajan Singh ETO also emphasized the importance of safety during repair and restoration operations. He instructed officials to ensure the protection of field workers and the general public while carrying out maintenance work in rain-affected areas. The Minister further directed the department to maintain adequate stocks of important materials such as electric poles, transformers, cables, and other spare equipment so that any additional damage could be repaired quickly.

The Minister appreciated the efforts of the technical teams and ground staff who have been working continuously in difficult weather conditions to restore normal electricity supply. He asked the officials to establish a 24/7 monitoring and complaint management system to ensure quick response to consumer grievances and emergency situations. Consumers were also advised to use official helpline numbers to report power outages, damaged infrastructure, or dangerous situations such as hanging electric wires.

Officials also discussed the financial impact caused by the infrastructure damage. While restoration work remains the immediate focus, the department will later carry out a detailed assessment of the total losses. The Punjab government reiterated its commitment to ensuring reliable electricity supply and strengthening the stateโ€™s power infrastructure to better handle future monsoon-related challenges.
