The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has invited bids for a major battery energy storage project in Andhra Pradesh as part of Indiaโs growing push toward renewable energy integration and grid modernization. The state-owned transmission utility issued the tender under reference number CC/T/W-BESS/DOM/A10/26/07004 for the development of a 150 MW / 300 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Kalikiri in Andhra Pradesh.
The project falls under Package AP-BESS-01 and includes the complete design, engineering, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the large-scale storage system. The initiative forms an important part of a broader national program aimed at developing a cumulative 1,000 MW / 2,000 MWh BESS capacity across Andhra Pradesh through a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding framework.
The battery storage program is being supported through Viability Gap Funding (VGF) under the Power System Development Fund (PSDF). The project is expected to strengthen grid reliability and support the integration of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. With India rapidly increasing its renewable energy capacity, battery storage systems are becoming essential for balancing electricity supply and demand, reducing renewable energy curtailment, and improving power availability during peak consumption periods.
POWERGRID is conducting the bidding process online through its PRANIT e-tendering portal. Interested bidders can access tender documents and submit their proposals using the RFX Number 5002005366 through the official portal.
The tender has been categorized as an Open Tender under the โWorksโ category. In a move expected to encourage wider participation, POWERGRID has fixed the tender fee at zero. The initial notice also mentions zero value for both the tender value and the Earnest Money Deposit (EMD). However, detailed technical specifications, qualification criteria, and security requirements are expected to be provided in the comprehensive bidding documents available on the portal.
Although the exact Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG) requirement has not been specified in the brief notice, such large infrastructure projects generally require successful bidders to furnish a bank guarantee after contract award to ensure timely project execution and compliance with contractual obligations.
POWERGRID has also scheduled a pre-bid meeting on May 21, 2026, at 11:30 AM. The meeting will provide an opportunity for prospective developers and contractors to seek technical and commercial clarifications related to the project before submitting their bids.
As per the official schedule, the tender was published on May 14, 2026, and bid submissions have already commenced. The last date for document sale and online bid submission is June 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM, while the bid opening is scheduled for the same day at 11:30 AM.
