The scope of work includes the construction of diversion tunnels, hydromechanical gates, and cofferdams. The project is scheduled for completion within nine months.

According to the company, the contract was awarded following a technical and financial evaluation process conducted by WHPL and reflects HCC’s established expertise in executing complex hydroelectric infrastructure projects in challenging terrains.

The diversion works are expected to play a crucial role in enabling the early commencement of the project’s main civil construction activities and ensuring adherence to the overall project timeline.

Bhutan’s hydropower sector is expected to witness significant expansion under the country’s 13th Five-Year Plan (2024–2029), which targets the development of 6,000 MW of installed capacity through continued investments in large-scale hydroelectric projects.

HCC has maintained a strong presence in Bhutan’s hydropower sector for over three decades, contributing to key projects including Tala (1020 MW), Kurichu (60 MW), Punatsangchhu-I (1200 MW), Dagachhu (114 MW), and Nikachhu (118 MW). The company has also executed approximately 26% of India’s total installed hydropower capacity.
