Sembcorp Industries has officially completed its acquisition of Alinta Energy, marking a significant expansion of its presence in the Australian energy sector. The transaction was carried out through Sembcorp’s indirect wholly-owned subsidiaries, Sembcorp Energy Australia Pty Ltd and Sembcorp Energy Australia Pte Ltd. Through the deal, the subsidiaries acquired all shares in Pioneer Sail Holdings Pty Ltd and Latrobe Valley Power Holdings Pty Ltd, bringing Alinta Energy fully under Sembcorp’s ownership.
The completion of the acquisition follows Sembcorp’s announcement on December 11, 2025, that it intended to purchase a 100% stake in Alinta Energy from Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited. The Hong Kong-based company has owned Alinta Energy since 2017. With the transaction now finalized, Sembcorp has secured a strong position in one of the world’s key energy markets.
The acquisition provides Sembcorp with access to Alinta Energy’s large-scale integrated energy platform in Australia. The business operates a generation portfolio of approximately 3.4 gigawatts and has a substantial development pipeline of around 10.4 gigawatts. The platform combines electricity generation and retail operations, creating opportunities for future growth and expansion.
Sembcorp plans to leverage its global expertise in energy and renewables alongside Alinta’s existing capabilities to deliver comprehensive energy solutions. The company believes the acquisition will support its long-term strategy of expanding renewable energy operations and contributing to energy transition efforts. Australia is expected to play an important role in Sembcorp’s global growth plans, particularly in the development of clean energy projects.
To ensure a smooth transition, Alinta Energy will continue operating under its existing brand name and organizational structure. The company’s day-to-day operations will remain unchanged, providing continuity for its workforce, customers, and business partners. Alinta currently employs more than 1,000 people and serves approximately 1.1 million retail customers across Australia.
The current management team will also remain in place. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Dimery will continue leading the company, supported by his existing leadership team. Sembcorp stated that maintaining continuity will help preserve operational stability while supporting future growth initiatives.
Company leaders expressed confidence about the opportunities created by the acquisition. Alex Tan, Sembcorp’s President and CEO of Renewables (East), described the completion of the transaction as an important milestone in the company’s growth journey. He said Sembcorp looks forward to creating long-term value for communities and supporting Australia’s transition toward cleaner energy. Jeff Dimery welcomed the new ownership, noting that Sembcorp’s financial strength and renewable energy expertise will help Alinta invest in projects that support a secure and lower-carbon energy future.
