Aboitiz Renewables Inaugurates 92.55 MWp San Manuel Solar Power Plant In Pangasinan, Philippines

Aboitiz Renewables, Inc., the renewable energy arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation, has officially inaugurated its 92.55-megawatt peak (MWp) San Manuel Solar Power Plant in Pangasinan, marking another important step in expanding the company’s renewable energy portfolio in the Philippines. The new solar facility is expected to strengthen the country’s clean energy capacity while supporting the government’s efforts to increase the share of renewable energy in the national power mix.

The San Manuel Solar Power Plant was developed in coordination with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, local government units, and host communities. The facility is directly connected to the Luzon grid through the San Manuel 69-kilovolt (kV) Substation, allowing it to supply renewable electricity to consumers across the country’s largest power grid.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several government officials, including Sharon Garin, Pangasinan Vice Governor Mark DG. Lambino, San Manuel Mayor Kenneth Marco S. Perez, San Manuel Vice Mayor Alain Jerico S. Perez, and Binalonan Vice Mayor Bryan Louie Ramirez Balangue.

During the event, Secretary Garin highlighted the broader significance of the project, saying that every solar panel represents a commitment to providing stable and affordable electricity for Filipino families, creating lasting employment opportunities for local workers, and ensuring a cleaner energy future for the next generation.

A message from Pangasinan Governor Ramon V. Guico III, delivered by Vice Mayor Balangue, expressed the provincial government’s full support for the project. The message noted that the solar power plant would help provide a more reliable and affordable electricity supply while contributing to environmental protection through the use of clean energy.

The San Manuel facility is Aboitiz Renewables’ third solar power project in Pangasinan. It joins the company’s existing 154-MWp Laoag 1 and 2 Solar Power Plants and the 94-MWp Cayanga-Bugallon Solar Power Plant, further strengthening the province’s position as an important renewable energy hub.

According to Danel Aboitiz, the growing demand for electricity in the Philippines requires continued investment in power generation projects such as San Manuel. He said these investments help strengthen the country’s energy system, diversify the power generation mix, and improve long-term energy security.

He also noted that AboitizPower has significantly expanded its renewable energy portfolio over the past few years. The company’s attributable net sellable renewable energy capacity has increased from around 900 MW in 2020 to approximately 2.3 gigawatts today, reflecting its continued commitment to clean energy development.

Aboitiz Renewables currently operates 45 renewable energy facilities across the Philippines, covering solar, hydropower, geothermal, and energy storage technologies. In addition, the company has a development pipeline of more than 1,800 MW consisting of planned solar, hydro, and wind energy projects.

Aboitiz Renewables President Jimmy A. Villaroman thanked the Department of Energy, local government officials, and community partners for supporting the country’s energy transition. He said the San Manuel Solar Power Plant represents not only the successful completion of another renewable energy project but also serves as a foundation for future clean energy developments that will contribute to the Philippines’ sustainable growth and energy security.
