AdventEnergy, the retail electricity supply arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower), has signed an agreement to supply renewable electricity to 153 branches of China Banking Corporation (Chinabank) under the Philippines’ Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).
Under the agreement, more than 30% of Chinabank’s branch network across Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Metro Manila will receive approximately 2 MW of renewable energy. According to the companies, the partnership represents one of the largest renewable energy supply agreements between a retail electricity supplier and a banking institution in the Philippines.
The collaboration also extends AdventEnergy’s long-standing relationship with the SM Group, Chinabank’s majority shareholder, and supports the bank’s sustainability strategy by integrating renewable electricity into its operations.
The power supply arrangement was enabled through the ERC’s Retail Aggregation Program, which allows eligible businesses and institutions to aggregate electricity demand across multiple facilities and participate in the competitive retail electricity market.
Romeo D. Uyan Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of Chinabank, said the partnership aligns with the bank’s commitment to support renewable energy development by sourcing its operational electricity from cleaner energy alternatives whenever possible. He added that the agreement will help the bank reduce its carbon footprint while advancing its long-term sustainability objectives.
In addition to supporting decarbonization efforts, the companies said the agreement is expected to provide greater cost stability and improve long-term financial planning by reducing exposure to volatile global fuel prices.
Catherine Del Villar-Pasilaban, Vice President for Retail Energy Sales and Services at AdventEnergy, said the company remains focused on delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions tailored to the needs of commercial and industrial customers. She added that AdventEnergy aims to help organizations transition to cleaner energy while ensuring operational reliability.
The agreement also reflects the continued expansion of the ERC’s customer choice initiatives, including the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) program. The recent implementation of Phase IV of RCOA reduced the contestability threshold from 500 kW to 100 kW of monthly peak demand, allowing more businesses to access competitive electricity suppliers.
AdventEnergy said it continues to support the implementation of RAP and RCOA by providing renewable energy solutions to a broader range of Philippine businesses, including organizations in the banking and financial services sector.
The company currently supplies electricity to several SM Group businesses, including shopping malls, banks, educational institutions, retail establishments, and affiliated companies, through energy solutions aligned with the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA).
