Iberdrola reported a 6.3% year-on-year increase in electricity distributed during the first half of 2026, reaching 136,648 GWh, driven by rising electricity demand and accelerating electrification across its key markets.
The utility said electricity distribution increased across all regions where it operates, with the United Kingdom recording the strongest growth at 32.6%, supported by higher demand and the integration of Electricity North West into its network operations.
The company also expanded its global generation portfolio during the period, increasing installed capacity by nearly 4% to 56,827 MW, representing an addition of approximately 2,300 MW over the past 12 months.
Wind power accounted for the largest share of new capacity additions, with more than 1,400 MW added across onshore and offshore wind projects, followed by approximately 1,000 MW of new solar capacity. Battery energy storage capacity more than doubled, rising 117% following the commissioning of new projects in Spain and Australia.
Regionally, Continental Europe and Australia recorded the highest capacity growth, increasing by 23.2% with more than 1,000 MW of new capacity. The additions were driven primarily by onshore wind projects in Australia, Greece, and Portugal, alongside new solar installations in Germany and Italy.
In the United States, Iberdrola added nearly 800 MW of new capacity, representing a 7.3% increase, while installed capacity grew by approximately 400 MW in the United Kingdom and 600 MW in Spain.
Electricity generation during the first six months of 2026 reached 61,318 GWh, up nearly 1% year on year, supported by a 2% increase in second-quarter output. Offshore wind generation recorded the strongest technology-specific growth, increasing 23% compared with the same period last year.
Among Iberdrola’s operating markets, electricity production increased 27.3% in the United Kingdom, 8% in the United States, and 11.5% across its other international markets.
In Spain, electricity generation totaled 32,732 GWh, remaining broadly in line with the previous year. The company said it generated more than 12,000 GWh of hydroelectric power during the period while maintaining reservoir storage levels of more than 8,200 GWh as of June 30, supported by its pumped hydro storage capacity.
According to Iberdrola, the continued expansion of renewable generation, battery storage, and electricity distribution infrastructure reflects growing demand for electrification and supports the company’s long-term clean energy growth strategy across its global markets.
