Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies has commissioned its Customer Qualification Plant (CQP) at the company’s Giga Corridor in Telangana, marking a key milestone in its roadmap toward commercial-scale lithium-ion cell manufacturing in India.
The facility was inaugurated by Shri A. Revanth Reddy, Chief Minister of Telangana, highlighting the state’s focus on strengthening advanced manufacturing and supporting the country’s clean energy transition.
Developed with an investment of approximately ₹500 crore, the CQP forms part of Amara Raja’s broader ₹9,500 crore Giga Corridor programme, which aims to establish 16 GWh of lithium-ion battery manufacturing capacity. The facility also contributes to the company’s Phase 1 investment of more than ₹1,500 crore.
The Customer Qualification Plant has an initial manufacturing capacity of 60 MWh and has been designed to produce cylindrical and prismatic lithium-ion cells across multiple battery chemistries. The cells will be supplied to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for testing, qualification and validation before commercial-scale production begins.
According to the company, the CQP bridges the gap between laboratory-scale research and commercial manufacturing by enabling customers to validate battery performance using cells produced on manufacturing lines that closely replicate future mass-production processes. The approach is expected to accelerate the commercialization of new battery technologies while reducing manufacturing and execution risks.
The facility currently employs more than 100 people, with customer validation samples expected to be supplied from August 2026.
Amara Raja said the CQP will support the commissioning of its Giga 1 lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility, which is scheduled to begin commercial production next year. The first commercial phase will add 2 GWh of cell manufacturing capacity, with the company targeting full commercial operations by CY2027.
The Customer Qualification Plant, together with the company’s ePositive Energy Labs research and engineering centre and the upcoming Giga 1 facility, represents a major step toward completing the first phase of Amara Raja’s integrated battery manufacturing ecosystem in Telangana.
Speaking at the inauguration, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the facility strengthens India’s battery manufacturing value chain while reinforcing Telangana’s position as a hub for advanced manufacturing and clean energy technologies. He added that the state remains committed to supporting investments that promote innovation, employment and the vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Jayadev Galla, Co-founder and Chairman of Amara Raja, said the commissioning of the Customer Qualification Plant marks an important milestone in building a self-reliant battery ecosystem in India. He noted that developing domestic capabilities for advanced battery validation and manufacturing will play a critical role in strengthening India’s position within the global energy transition and battery supply chain.
