Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. (AESL) has secured an inter-state transmission project worth approximately ₹8,500 crore in Andhra Pradesh to support the state’s upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia developments in the Vizag region. The project was awarded through the Government of India’s Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, with AESL emerging as the successful bidder.
The project, titled “Transmission System for Proposed Green Hydrogen / Green Ammonia Projects in Vizag Area, Andhra Pradesh (Phase-I),” has been designed to facilitate power evacuation and supply for proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia facilities while meeting an estimated electricity demand of 4,500 MW. It will also strengthen the transmission network to support the growing power requirements of the Pendurthi–Vizag region, where significant investments in data centres and digital infrastructure are planned.
The transmission asset will be developed under the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Vizag Power Transmission Ltd. The scope of work includes the establishment of a 4×1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV GIS substation at Pendurthi (Vizag) and a 3×1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV substation at Khammam-II. The project will add 1,582 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL’s portfolio.
Following the project award, AESL’s transmission order book has crossed ₹80,000 crore, while its overall transmission network will expand to 29,531 ckm with a total transformation capacity of 133,675 MVA, according to the company.
Commenting on the development, Kandarp Patel, CEO of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd., said the Vizag transmission project will play a key role in building the energy infrastructure required for India’s next phase of industrial growth. He noted that the project will support green hydrogen and green ammonia production in Andhra Pradesh while strengthening the regional grid to meet rising demand from digital infrastructure. He added that AESL remains committed to developing resilient transmission networks that enable sustainable economic growth.
AESL stated that Vizag is emerging as a major destination for AI and hyperscale data centres, supported by planned subsea connectivity and expanding industrial infrastructure. The company added that robust transmission infrastructure will be critical to ensuring reliable power supply and grid stability as green hydrogen production and digital infrastructure continue to grow in the region. The project is scheduled for completion within 30 months.
