IIT Jammu Invites EOI For 2.2 MW Hybrid Solar PV With 8 MWh Battery Energy Storage Project

The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (IIT Jammu) has invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M) of a 2.2 MWp Hybrid Solar PV Plant integrated with an 8 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at its Jagti Campus in Jammu. The project is being implemented on a Supply, Installation, Testing, and Commissioning (SITC) basis and is intended to strengthen the institute’s clean energy infrastructure while serving as a research-oriented microgrid for academic and technological innovation.

Under the proposed project, IIT Jammu plans to install a total solar photovoltaic capacity of 2.2 MWp. Of this, 1 MWp will be deployed on the rooftops of campus buildings, while the remaining 1.2 MWp will be installed on elevated pathway structures. The project also incorporates multiple solar tracking technologies, with 80% of the system based on fixed-tilt structures and the remaining capacity distributed among single-axis, dual-axis, active, and passive tracking systems, each accounting for 5%.

The solar power plant will be integrated with an 8 MWh Distributed Usable Battery Energy Storage System, primarily based on Lithium-Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery technology or other suitable battery chemistries depending on technical and commercial evaluations. The project also includes the deployment of micro/grid-tied hybrid inverters that comply with the Government of India’s Made-in-India guidelines. The complete hybrid microgrid will be connected to the institute’s existing SCADA system as well as its 33 kV grid infrastructure. The entire project is scheduled to be completed within 10 months.

According to the EOI schedule, the notice was published on July 24, 2026, and document downloads also commenced on the same date. A vendor presentation has been scheduled for August 4, 2026, while the last date for submission of responses is August 14, 2026. The EOI submissions will be opened on August 17, 2026.

As this is an exploratory EOI, IIT Jammu has not specified any Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) or Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG) requirements at this stage. These financial conditions, along with the detailed O&M period, expected to range between five and ten years, will be finalized during the subsequent Request for Proposal (RFP) stage. Participating agencies are required to submit a preliminary cost estimate along with their technical proposals.

To qualify, applicants must be legally registered entities in India and possess valid ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications. They should have successfully completed at least three similar projects totaling 5 MWp or more during the past seven years, including at least one project of 1 MWp integrated with a minimum 2 MWh battery energy storage system within the last five years. Joint ventures or consortiums of up to two members are also eligible to participate.

Interested agencies are required to submit their responses through email to IIT Jammu before the specified deadline. Shortlisted participants will be invited to the detailed tender stage, where proposals will be evaluated using the Quality and Cost Based Selection (QCBS) methodology. The project is expected to support IIT Jammu’s long-term sustainability objectives while providing a platform for advanced research, renewable energy integration, and smart microgrid development.
