The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) has announced that it will hold a public hearing on September 10, 2026, to consider an electricity trading license application submitted by Seriti Green Energy (Pty) Ltd. The hearing forms part of NERSA’s regulatory process under the National Energy Regulator Act of 2004, which governs the electricity, piped-gas, and petroleum pipeline industries in South Africa.
The application relates to Seriti Green Energy’s proposed electricity trading operations in Mpumalanga Province, where Eskom serves as the local electricity distributor. Through the public hearing, NERSA aims to provide stakeholders and members of the public with an opportunity to review the application and share their views before a regulatory decision is made.
The hearing will be conducted virtually through Microsoft Teams from 13:30 to 16:30. To ensure wider public access, the proceedings will also be live-streamed on the social media platform. NERSA has encouraged interested parties, industry participants, and members of the public to participate in the consultation process by attending the hearing or making oral representations.
Copies of the license application documents are available for public review on the official NERSA website under the public hearings section. This enables stakeholders to examine the proposal in detail before submitting comments or participating in the hearing.
Individuals wishing to attend the virtual hearing or make oral presentations must register no later than 16:30 on Tuesday, August 28, 2026. Registration requests should be submitted to Mr. Walter Mabunda using the contact details provided by NERSA. Stakeholders who are unable to attend the hearing can still participate by submitting written comments via email to TdLicenseApplications@nersa.org.za before the same registration deadline.
NERSA also clarified that the hearing will proceed only if there is sufficient public interest. If no external stakeholders register to make oral representations, the hearing will be cancelled. In such a case, all registered participants will be notified directly, and an official cancellation notice will be published on the NERSA website.
The regulator stated that the public participation process is an important part of ensuring transparency and accountability in electricity licensing decisions. Interested parties seeking additional information about the application or the hearing process may also contact NERSA through its license applications email channel. The outcome of the consultation will contribute to NERSA’s assessment of Seriti Green Energy’s application before any final licensing decision is made.
