PGCIL Wins RECPDCL Bid To Develop 4.5 GW Inter-State Renewable Power Transmission Project

REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, has announced Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) as the successful bidder for the development of a 4.5 GW inter-state transmission system (ISTS) project. The project was awarded through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process to support the evacuation of renewable energy from key generation hubs across India.

PGCIL secured the contract after quoting the lowest levelized annual transmission tariff in the competitive e-reverse auction. The project is designed to evacuate up to 4.5 GW (4,500 MW) of renewable energy, helping strengthen the national transmission network and improve the integration of large-scale solar and wind power projects.

As the Transmission Service Provider (TSP), PGCIL will execute the project on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis. Its responsibilities include developing high-voltage transmission lines, establishing substations, and installing associated transmission infrastructure required for reliable long-distance power transfer.

RECPDCL acted as the Bid Process Coordinator (BPC) for the project, overseeing the transparent and competitive bidding process. The award reflects the government’s continued focus on expanding transmission infrastructure in line with rapid renewable energy capacity additions.

Once commissioned, the transmission system is expected to improve grid reliability, reduce transmission constraints, and support India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030 by enabling efficient delivery of clean electricity across multiple states.
