Sungrow has announced the commercial operation of the Nordic region’s largest battery energy storage system (BESS), delivering its PowerTitan 2.0 solution for the 70 MW / 160 MWh Ånge BESS in Sweden. The project was developed by Delta Capacity and is designed to strengthen grid stability and support Sweden’s growing renewable energy capacity.
Located in Ånge in Sweden’s bidding zone SE2, the utility-scale battery system is designed to operate reliably under Nordic weather conditions and extreme temperature variations. The facility will provide rapid-response services for frequency regulation and enable energy arbitrage across the Nordic electricity market.
According to Sungrow, the project represents a significant milestone in the expansion of battery storage infrastructure in Sweden, where supportive regulations have enabled energy storage assets to participate in balancing markets as revenue-generating resources.
“The Ånge project is a great example of how large-scale energy storage is built in practice. Fast, at the right scale, and with the right partners like Delta Capacity. Our role is to be a long-term partner and contribute to expanding renewable energy capacity in Sweden,” said Samer Nameer, Country Manager Sweden at Sungrow.
The Ånge BESS is owned by a joint venture between WOOD & Company Renewables Sub-Fund and Delta Capacity, which managed the project from design through commissioning. The project reached commercial operation 15 months after procurement began.
“The Nordic energy transition is moving fast and requires infrastructure that keeps the same pace. Sweden has great renewable resources, but flexibility is missing, and that is exactly what Ånge provides,” said Patrik Hes, CEO of Delta Capacity. “Our goal is to continue building faster and at a greater scale because the energy transition cannot wait.”
The project was acquired from RES in February 2025. Other project partners include Stenger & Ibsen Construction, Rejlers, Green Power Monitor, Solvina, and Ellevio, while Centrica Energy has been appointed to manage electricity trading and market optimisation for the facility.
Sungrow said the commissioning comes as Sweden’s battery storage market continues to expand alongside the country’s accelerating energy transition. According to SolarPower Europe, Sweden and Finland collectively installed more than 1 GWh of new battery storage capacity in 2025.
The company currently operates 25 offices, two research and development centres, and 26 warehouses across Europe, supporting renewable energy deployment across the region.
