Shyam Metalics Commissions 8.90 MWp Captive Solar Power Project at Jamuria Plant in West Bengal

Shyam Sel and Power Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited, has commissioned an 8.90 MWp solar power project at its manufacturing facility in Jamuria, West Bengal.

The solar project marks a key milestone in the company’s efforts to increase renewable energy adoption, reduce carbon emissions and support greener manufacturing operations across its facilities.

The commissioned solar capacity has been developed under a combination of CAPEX and OPEX models. The project includes 4.60 MWp installed under the CAPEX model and 4.30 MWp under the OPEX model.

The solar power generated from the project will be used for captive consumption, helping the company optimise operational power costs while integrating renewable energy into its manufacturing processes.

Commenting on the development, Brij Bhushan Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director, Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited, said the commissioning of the solar capacity reflects the company’s commitment towards sustainable manufacturing and clean energy transition.

“By adopting a blended strategy of both CAPEX and OPEX models, we are effectively balancing capital efficiency with long-term cost optimisation while reducing our carbon emissions,” Agarwal said.

Shyam Metalics said the project is part of its broader sustainability initiatives aimed at increasing renewable energy usage across its operations and improving energy efficiency.

The company operates integrated metal manufacturing facilities across West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh, with a focus on long and flat steel products, ferro alloys, aluminium and stainless steel. It has an aggregate installed metal capacity of 16.93 MTPA and is supported by 467 MW of captive power generation capacity.
