Lightsource bp and Meta have finalised a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) to support the Mowata Solar project, a 172 MWdc (150 MWac) solar facility under development in Acadia Parish, Louisiana, further expanding their renewable energy partnership in the United States.
Under the agreement, electricity generated by the Mowata Solar project will be supplied to support Meta’s operations while adding new renewable energy capacity to the local electricity grid. The project forms part of Meta’s strategy to increase clean energy generation in the regions where it operates.
The agreement marks the second solar PPA between the two companies. In 2022, Meta signed a long-term agreement with Lightsource bp for electricity generated by the 134 MWdc (107 MWac) Arche Solar project in Gorham Township, Ohio.
Amanda Yang, Head of Clean & Renewable Energy at Meta, said the project will strengthen Louisiana’s energy infrastructure while supporting local economic development.
“Partnering with Lightsource bp to bring 150 MWac of new solar energy online through Mowata Solar is a meaningful step. It adds generation to the local grid and supports economic growth in Acadia Parish. We’re proud to contribute to a more resilient and energy-abundant Louisiana,” Yang said.
Lightsource bp said it will invest $237 million in the Mowata Solar project, which is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs while delivering long-term economic benefits to Acadia Parish.
Emilie Wangerman, Chief Operating Officer and Head of USA at Lightsource bp, said the agreement demonstrates the company’s ability to deliver renewable energy solutions that meet the growing electricity requirements of the technology sector.
The company added that its power purchase solutions are designed to complement other energy sources through flexible commercial structures, enabling customers to access grid-ready renewable energy tailored to their operational requirements while supporting broader energy transition goals.
