Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has invited bids for a major battery energy storage project under a Long Term Agreement (LTA), further strengthening India’s efforts to build a reliable and renewable-powered electricity grid. The tender, issued under Reference Number CC/T/W-BESS/DOM/A04/26/09477, aims to develop a 250 MW / 1000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at multiple locations across the country. The project has been classified as a Category-B (4-hour BESS) system, designed to store electricity for four hours and support the growing integration of renewable energy into the national grid.
The project involves the complete design, engineering, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the battery energy storage systems on a turnkey, site-destination basis. Once operational, the storage facilities will help improve grid stability, manage peak electricity demand, and increase the reliability of power supply by storing excess renewable energy generated during periods of high production and supplying it when demand rises.
The tender has been issued as a domestic open tender under the works category in the power and energy sector and is open for execution across various states in India. POWERGRID expects qualified contractors and engineering companies with the required technical and financial capabilities to participate in the bidding process.
Interested bidders can obtain the tender documents and submit their bids electronically through POWERGRID’s PRANIT e-tendering portal under RFX Number 5007000202. According to the official tender notice, there is no Tender Fee or Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) required for participation, with both amounts specified as Nil. However, successful bidders will be required to meet the Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG) and other financial eligibility requirements detailed in the bidding documents.
The bidding process began with the publication of the tender and commencement of document sales and online bid submissions on July 16, 2026. A pre-bid meeting was scheduled for July 28, 2026, allowing prospective bidders to seek clarifications regarding the project’s technical and commercial requirements.
The deadline for purchasing tender documents and submitting online bids has been fixed for August 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM. The technical bid opening is scheduled for the same day at 11:30 AM through the online portal.
The tender process is being managed by Rohit Dalakoti, Chief Manager at POWERGRID. All official communications and clarifications related to the tender can be addressed to the Tender Inviting Officer at POWERGRID’s corporate office, Saudamini, Plot No. 2, Sector 29, Gurugram, Haryana. Interested companies are advised to carefully review the complete tender documents and technical specifications available on the PRANIT portal before submitting their bids.
