POWERCHINA has commenced conductor and ground wire stringing for the 330kV Lusaka West–Kabwe Transmission Line Project in Zambia after completing all preliminary preparations, marking the project’s transition into a key phase of construction.
The initial wire-stringing section covers approximately 4.5 kilometres, passing through farms, seasonal rivers and gullies, presenting challenging terrain and complex construction conditions.
To maximize progress during Zambia’s dry season, the project management team optimized the construction schedule and prioritized wire stringing in areas most vulnerable to disruptions during the rainy season, including swamps and low-lying flood-prone zones. The approach is expected to reduce weather-related delays, minimize equipment downtime, and maintain safety, quality and construction progress.
The 330kV Lusaka West–Kabwe Transmission Line Project, which spans Lusaka Province and Central Province, is a major power transmission infrastructure project designed to strengthen Zambia’s national electricity backbone network.
Upon completion, the transmission line is expected to enhance power transmission capacity and improve grid stability across Lusaka, Kabwe, and nearby regions. The project will also reinforce the electricity interconnection between the two provinces, supporting reliable power supply for industrial, mining and residential consumers.
