REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd. (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Ltd., has transferred the project-specific Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Ryapte Power Transmission Ltd. to Tata Power Company Limited. The handover was completed on July 30, 2026, following Tata Power’s selection as the successful bidder under a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process conducted by RECPDCL.
The SPV transfer marks the beginning of a major power transmission infrastructure project aimed at evacuating renewable energy from the upcoming 2,000 MW Ryapte Solar Park in Tumkur district, Karnataka. The project will be developed under the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model, with an estimated investment of around ₹3,200 crore. The project is expected to be completed within 30 months from the commencement of development activities.
The formal handover ceremony was conducted in the presence of senior officials from RECPDCL, Tata Power, and Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL). The SPV was officially handed over by Monisha Barua, General Manager and Head of Department at RECPDCL, to Tarun Katiyar, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Power Trading Company Limited.
The transmission project will establish critical infrastructure required for integrating large-scale renewable energy into Karnataka’s power grid. The scope of work includes the development of a 400/220 kV substation at Ryapte and a 400/220 kV Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) at Doddathaggalli near Hosakote.
As part of the project, Tata Power will construct a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line covering approximately 207 kilometres, connecting Doddathaggalli with Ryapte and Kolar. Additionally, a 220 kV double-circuit transmission line of nearly 57 kilometres will be developed to connect Ekarajapura, Hosakote, and Sarjapura.
The transmission network will play a key role in evacuating clean power generated from the Ryapte Solar Park and ensuring reliable delivery of renewable electricity to the grid. The project is also expected to enhance Karnataka’s intra-state transmission capacity and support the state’s growing renewable energy infrastructure.
With solar capacity additions accelerating across India, strengthening transmission networks has become essential to ensure efficient integration of renewable power. Projects such as the Ryapte transmission system will help address evacuation challenges associated with large-scale solar developments while contributing to India’s broader clean energy transition goals.
The collaboration between RECPDCL, Tata Power, and KPTCL reflects the increasing role of private sector participation in developing critical power infrastructure through competitive bidding mechanisms. The successful completion of this project will further strengthen Karnataka’s position as a key state in India’s renewable energy expansion.
