The auction, concluded on August 7, 2026, was conducted under a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process for the development of a total 500 MW/2,000 MWh standalone BESS capacity across West Bengal. NGEL emerged as one of the successful bidders, securing 200 MW/800 MWh of the total capacity.

The company won the project at a discovered tariff of ₹4.35 lakh per MW per month. The project was awarded in accordance with the terms and conditions outlined in WBSEDCL’s Request for Selection (RfS).

The successful bid strengthens NGEL’s presence in India’s rapidly expanding energy storage sector. Standalone BESS projects are expected to play an important role in improving grid flexibility, balancing renewable power generation, and supporting reliable electricity supply as the share of renewable energy increases.
