Founder Energy Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Founder Group Limited, has secured a turnkey engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract to develop a 1.4 MW-peak rooftop solar system for an integrated shrimp farming operator in Bandar Permaisuri, Terengganu, Malaysia. The contract is valued at approximately RM4.7 million (US$1.15 million).
The solar project will be deployed across three sites operated by the shrimp farming client. The contract marks Founder Energy’s entry into the aquaculture sector as an EPCC provider, expanding its renewable energy project portfolio beyond its existing market segments.
Under the agreement, Founder Energy will be responsible for the supply and installation of solar panels, inverters, mounting structures, cabling and associated equipment. The company will also coordinate with Malaysia’s national utility, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), for grid connection of the solar system.
The project comes as Malaysia accelerates renewable energy deployment under its National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), which targets a 70% renewable energy capacity share by 2050. The country’s renewable energy market is also being supported by initiatives including the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) and Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme (Solar ATAP), alongside upcoming Large Scale Solar (LSS6) developments.
Founder Group said rising electricity costs and tariff fluctuations are encouraging energy-intensive businesses to explore distributed solar solutions. Aquaculture operations, which require continuous electricity for equipment such as pond aeration systems, represent a potential market for commercial rooftop solar deployment.
The company said it plans to complement its EPCC capabilities with long-term asset lifecycle management through its AI-driven operations and maintenance (O&M) technologies. Its O&M platform incorporates automated diagnostics, predictive maintenance and drone-assisted visual and thermal inspections to identify system anomalies and module defects.
Commenting on the project, Lee Seng Chi, Chief Executive Officer of Founder Group Limited, said aquaculture is a high-demand, continuous-operation industry where energy costs directly affect production and business continuity. He added that solar deployment can help operators manage energy costs, reduce exposure to tariff volatility and support decarbonization.
The contract establishes Founder Energy’s entry into Malaysia’s aquaculture sector and provides an opportunity to expand solar solutions for commercial farming operations with significant and continuous electricity requirements.
