Coal India Limited (CIL), a state-owned Maharatna company, has commenced commercial operations of 200 MW of solar power capacity at Khavda in Gujarat, marking a significant step in its renewable energy expansion.
According to an official regulatory disclosure dated August 7, 2026, CIL stated that the 200 MW solar capacity will achieve commercial operation from August 8, 2026, at 00:00 hours. The capacity forms a major part of the company’s larger 300 MW solar power project being developed in Gujarat.
The disclosure was submitted to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) by B. P. Dubey, Executive Director (CS) and Compliance Officer, in accordance with Regulation 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
The project at Khavda strengthens Coal India’s growing focus on renewable energy as the company seeks to diversify beyond its traditional coal mining and power activities. The commissioning of the 200 MW capacity will contribute to Gujarat’s renewable power generation and support CIL’s broader clean energy ambitions.
With 200 MW now operational, the remaining capacity of the 300 MW project will further expand Coal India’s renewable energy portfolio once commissioned.
