The Syrian Electricity Company (SEC) has signed three agreements with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Harfi Construction Company to develop large-scale renewable energy projects in Syria. The agreements were signed at the SEC headquarters in Damascus and focus on expanding solar power generation and energy storage capacity.
According to Syria’s official news agency SANA, the agreements cover the implementation of solar power projects in the Widyan ar-Rabi’ area of Damascus Countryside. The projects will have a combined generation capacity of 760 MW and will be supported by battery energy storage systems with a total capacity of 1,077 MW.
The agreements are part of efforts to strengthen Syria’s electricity infrastructure and increase the contribution of renewable energy to the country’s power supply. The integration of battery storage is expected to help manage solar generation and improve the reliability and availability of electricity.
The latest agreements follow a memorandum of understanding signed in February between the General Establishment for Electricity Transmission and Distribution (PETDE) and Al-Harfi Construction. That agreement covered a 210 MW solar power project supported by battery energy storage systems with a capacity of 827 MWh.
The developments highlight growing cooperation between Syrian and Saudi companies in renewable energy and energy infrastructure, while supporting Syria’s efforts to expand clean power generation.
