POWERGRID received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on the same day. The project has been awarded at a discovered tariff of Rs. 822.91 crore per annum. The transmission system will support the integration of renewable power from the 5,500 MW Jam Khambhaliya Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Phase II and the 1,000 MW Jamnagar Phase-I renewable energy projects. The initiative is expected to strengthen Gujarat’s transmission network and facilitate the evacuation of large volumes of clean power.

POWERGRID will implement the project on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis. The scope includes the establishment of a new Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation at Kalyanpur in Gujarat.

The project will also involve augmentation of Instrument Transformer and Circuit (ICT) facilities and bay extensions at several substations currently under construction across the state. In addition, POWERGRID will develop extensive 765 kV transmission lines to improve the movement of renewable electricity across Gujarat.

The project is part of India’s broader efforts to expand transmission infrastructure in line with the growing renewable energy capacity. Gujarat has emerged as a major hub for large-scale solar and wind development, making robust transmission infrastructure essential for efficient power evacuation.

POWERGRID’s latest project is expected to contribute to improved grid reliability, enhance renewable energy integration and support the expansion of India’s clean energy infrastructure.
