POWERCHINA Advances Cambodia’s 230 kV National Grid Expansion as Skun Substation Main Transformer Enters Trial Operation

POWERCHINA has successfully energized the main transformer at the Skun Substation, a key facility under the Cambodia National Grid 230 kV Substation Project Group, marking a major milestone toward the project’s full commissioning.

The main transformer was energized on the first attempt, with all operating parameters meeting the required standards. The substation has subsequently entered a 24-hour continuous trial operation phase to verify its performance and operational stability.

The milestone brings the core construction activities of the national grid project closer to completion and is expected to support the project’s scheduled commissioning.

The Cambodia National Grid 230 kV Substation Project Group is aimed at addressing transmission bottlenecks in central Cambodia and improving the reliability and stability of regional electricity supply.

As a core hub of the project, the Skun Substation will connect multiple surrounding load centres and facilitate electricity transmission across the region. Once operational, the facility is expected to help address electricity supply constraints in Kampong Speu Province and neighbouring areas, supporting residential electricity demand, agricultural irrigation and industrial park development.

Following the transformer energization, the project team will continue on-site operations and monitor key operating parameters throughout the trial period. The team will work toward completing the trial operation and transitioning the substation to commercial operations.

The project is also expected to contribute to the continued development of Cambodia’s power grid and strengthen infrastructure cooperation between China and Cambodia.
