Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies, has commissioned the second element of its Jalpura-Khurja Transmission Project in Uttar Pradesh, strengthening the state’s power transmission infrastructure and improving connectivity to electricity demand centres across the National Capital Region (NCR) and Western Uttar Pradesh.
The project has been executed through TP Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission Limited (TPJKPTL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power. The newly commissioned element includes a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line between Khurja and Jalpura, spanning 162 circuit kilometres (CKM), along with a 400/220 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation at Jalpura with a transformation capacity of 1,000 MVA.
The 162 CKM transmission corridor consists of two circuits of approximately 81 km each and establishes a high-voltage transmission link between Khurja and Jalpura. Khurja serves as an important power node in Western Uttar Pradesh and plays a strategic role in facilitating the efficient transmission of electricity towards NCR and Noida.
The newly commissioned Jalpura GIS substation will function as a key power gateway, enabling electricity to be transferred from the 400 kV high-voltage grid to the 220 kV network. The infrastructure is expected to support rising electricity demand in the region while improving the reliability, resilience and efficiency of the transmission network.
The commissioning comes as electricity demand continues to grow across NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh, driven by expanding urban centres, industrial activity and infrastructure development. The new transmission infrastructure is expected to provide additional capacity and strengthen the grid to support the region’s future power requirements.
With the commissioning of the transmission corridor and substation, Tata Power is further expanding the infrastructure required to support the next phase of growth in Uttar Pradesh and contribute to the development of a robust and future-ready electricity grid.
Tata Power said the project also demonstrates its capabilities in developing large-scale critical power infrastructure and supports the company’s broader focus on strengthening India’s electricity transmission network.
Following the latest commissioning, Tata Power’s transmission portfolio stands at approximately 7,900 circuit kilometres of lines operational and under execution across India, reinforcing its position in the country’s power transmission sector.
