EnerVenue Secures 11 MWh Energy Storage Order for Northern China Oilfield

EnerVenue has secured its first multi-megawatt-hour commercial order for the deployment of its Energy Prism battery storage systems at an oilfield in northern China.

The project will comprise 26 containerized Energy Prism units with a combined storage capacity of 11 MWh. The systems will store electricity generated by an onsite solar array and supply power to the oilfield operation.

The order was placed by a major Chinese oil and gas producer for one of its existing production sites. The first three Energy Prism units are scheduled for shipment in December 2026, with the remaining 23 units expected to follow in March 2027.

The project will use EnerVenue’s fourth-generation Aqueous Metal Cell (AMC) technology. The company said the water-based, non-flammable electrolyte and absence of lithium are designed to address stringent fire-safety requirements at industrial sites.

EnerVenue stated that its Aqueous Metal Cell has passed UL 9540A testing, a standard used to evaluate thermal runaway and fire propagation in battery energy storage systems. The company said the technology does not exhibit the same progression of events associated with thermal runaway in conventional battery chemistries.

The Energy Prism systems will integrate onsite solar generation with battery storage, enabling daytime solar output to be shifted to periods when the oilfield requires electricity. The systems will be supplied as complete containerized units designed to connect with the site’s power conversion equipment.

The deployment follows EnerVenue’s first Aqueous Metal Cell installation, a 150 kWh system integrating renewable generation with electric bus charging at Jintan in Changzhou, China, which has been operating since November 2025.

EnerVenue Expands Manufacturing Capacity in China

The cells for the northern China project will be manufactured at EnerVenue’s new high-volume production facility in Changzhou, Jiangsu.

The facility, scheduled to open on September 24, 2026, will initially have an annual production capacity of 250 MWh of Aqueous Metal Cells. EnerVenue plans to scale production to 1 GWh in 2027 and subsequently expand to multi-gigawatt-hour capacity by 2028.

The company said the Changzhou facility is its first plant designed for large-scale production of its Aqueous Metal Cell technology.

EnerVenue is also set to introduce its Energy Core, Energy Cube, Energy Rack and Energy Prism product platforms at the facility. The products range from 30 kWh distributed systems to utility-scale and heavy-industrial storage systems, all based on the company’s Aqueous Metal Cell chemistry.

The Aqueous Metal Cell uses nickel-hydrogen chemistry with a water-based electrolyte. EnerVenue said the technology is designed for up to 30,000 charge cycles, equivalent to operating for up to 30 years at three cycles per day.

The company also said the systems are designed without scheduled augmentation over their operating life and do not require active cooling. Depending on local regulations, fire suppression systems may also not be required.

EnerVenue currently has customer projects across China, Australia, the United States, the European Union, Saudi Arabia and Canada. Its customers include Radiance Energy, PowerSecure and Horizon Power.

The Changzhou manufacturing facility is being funded through EnerVenue’s $300 million Series B extension announced in March 2026. The company said it has raised more than $700 million to date.
